Nice

Promenade

In the southeast of France, directly by the Cote d'Azur, lies the port Nice. By its protected position, in the west of the Var valley and in the east of the Mont Boron, in winter time the city is one of the warmest places in the French Riviera. Therefore, Nice was in the 19th century a popular winter quarter for Britons. Still today the big hotels and gardens testify of it.

The economy is dominated by the tourism and the high technology. The technology centre Sophia Antipolis is approx. 20 km west of the city. The international airport of Nice is about seven kilometres west of the city centre.

The railway station Nice-Ville lies in the city centre, right beside is the railway station of the Chemins de Fer de Provence which connects the cities of Nice and Digne-les-Bains. In addition, numerous regional coach connections (TAM, transport of Alpes-Maritimes) exist in the adjoining environs.

Since November, 2007 a tram operates in Nice after long interruption again. An additional line is under construction which runs along the promenade of the Anglais parallel to Mediterranean coast. It should be finished by 2012. All bus stops and tram stops are equipped with ticket machines.
